Hovhannes Sharambeyan Museum of Folk Arts
The building of the folk art museum named after Hovhannes Sharambeyan was built in the 1930s. In 1978, the museum building, which previously belonged to the Institute of Fine Arts, was completely renovated, where the small auditoriums were transformed into wide and bright halls. A number of folk masters took part in the interior decoration of the building, among them was the national artist of Armenia Grigor Khanjyan.
The basis of the museum's collection was the exhibits of the Folk Art House founded by ethnographer, folklorist Habetnak Babayan. Later, with the efforts of ethnic culture devotee Hovhannes Sharambeyan, in 1978, the RA Ministry of Culture established the State Museum of Armenian Folk Art.
The museum's collection includes more than 12,000 pieces of wood, metal and stonework, embroidery and lacework, carpet and tapestry, pottery, as well as paintings by self-taught artists.
In the six halls of the general exposition area of the museum, different fields (fields) of folk art are presented: artistic processing of wood, metal, stone, embroidery, lacework, rug-making, carpet-making, pottery, etc.
The museum has a branch in Dilijan and a wood art exhibition hall in Yerevan.
